South Korea displayed its military force on Monday just a day after President Moon Jae-in ordered "maximum punishment" against the North's sixth nuclear test.
The Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) said that the Army and the Air Force conducted a joint missile exercise early on Monday to send a strong warning against the North.
The training involved the country's Hyunmoo 2A surface-to-surface ballistic missile and F-15K fighter jets.
The JCS said that the Hyunmoo missile and the F-15K's long-range air-to-ground missile accurately hit designated targets in the East Sea.
Presiding over a National Security Council(NSC) meeting on Sunday shortly after the nuclear test, Moon ordered the government to seek punishment against the North’s continued nuclear and missile tests along with the international community.

“I strongly condemn (the latest provocation), which was an extremely serious threat to international peace and security. I cannot help but feel disappointed and outrage. North Korea should clearly realize that it won’t be able to assure the survival and development its regime through nuclear weapons and missiles.”
He told the NSC to consider all diplomatic measures including UN Security Council resolutions for the North to abandon its nuclear and missile plans in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner and to isolate the North.
Seoul is also reportedly in talks with Washington regarding the deployment of U.S. strategic assets to Korea, such as F-22 and F-35B fighter jets, strategic B-1B and B-52 bombers and the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan.
The president’s remarks and the military drill followed the North’s claim to have “completely succeeded” in testing a hydrogen bomb that can be mounted on an intercontinental ballistic missile on Sunday.
