Nat'l Assembly Adopts Resolution Condemning N. Korea's Nuke Test

The National Assembly on Monday adopted a resolution condemning North Korea’s sixth nuclear test.
The adoption came during a plenary session which was held amid the absence of the main opposition Liberty Korea Party(LKP) which has declared a boycott of parliamentary activities.
The resolution was adopted with most lawmakers of the ruling Democratic Party(DP), minor People’s Party and Bareun Party in attendance.
In the resolution, the National Assembly denounced the North for escalating tensions on the Korean Peninsula and called on the South Korean government to come up with special measures.
However, lawmakers failed to vote on a motion seeking the approval of the appointment of Constitutional Court Chief Justice nominee Kim Yi-su.
An assembly official said that some Christian lawmakers of the People’s Party are said to have opposed voting on the motion due to rumors that Kim believes that banning homosexuality in the military is unconstitutional.
