US, Japan to Cooperate for Stronger UN Sanctions on N. Korea

Foreign ministers of the U.S. and Japan have agreed to push for tougher U.N. sanctions against North Korea following its sixth nuclear test.
According to Kyodo News, U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kono discussed such bilateral cooperation over the phone on Monday.
It also reported that an embargo on the exports of crude oil and petroleum products to the North will likely be requested under the joint diplomacy at the U.N. Security Council(UNSC).
After speaking with Tillerson, Kono also met with Japanese ambassadors stationed in UNSC member countries, including Ethiopia, which holds the council's presidency for the month of September, to boost international sanctions on the North.
Earlier, U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe agreed by phone that the global community should apply unprecedented pressure on the North to make it change its course.
