"I must say, 'enough is enough'. We have taken an incremental approach, and despite the best of intentions, it has not worked."

"China will never allow chaos and war on the peninsula."
The UN Security Council is divided over how to handle North Korea.
During a session held on Monday following the North's sixth nuclear test, U.S. Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley said that Kim Jong-un is begging for war.

"The time for half measures in the Security Council is over. The time has come to exhaust all of our diplomatic means before it's too late. We must now adopt the strongest possible measures. Kim Jong Un's action cannot be seen as defensive... His abusive use of missiles and his nuclear threats show that he is begging for war."
As Haley stressed that the U.S.' patience is not unlimited, South Korean Ambassador to the UN Cho Tae-yul called for joint action.

"We must end this immediately. And I call upon all member states including the members of this council to take firm and decisive actions to this end. I also call upon North Korea to stop pursuing the path of self-destruction... "
But Chinese Ambassador Liu Jieyi and Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzia insisted on resuming dialogue.

"We hope that the parties concerned will seriously consider this and actively respond to it.”

"Military solutions cannot settle the issues plaguing the North Korean peninsula. Given the unfolding situation there is an urgent need to maintain a cool head to refrain from any action that can further escalate tensions."
China and Russia renewed the "double freeze" proposal, seeking to suspend South Korea and the U.S.' joint military drills in exchange for putting a break on North Korea's nuclear and missile programs. Haley said that a "freeze for freeze is insulting."
The U.S. will table a new UN resolution this week.
