IAEA Chief: N. Korea Is Now Global Threat
The head of the U.N.'s nuclear watchdog has declared North Korea as a global threat following its sixth nuclear test.
Yukiya Amano, Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency(IAEA), told CNN on Monday that the North is no longer considered just a regional menace, and its claim of a successful hydrogen bomb test is posing a “new dimension of threat,” combining nuclear weapons and missiles.
The IAEA said it cannot determine the authenticity of the North’s claim that it tested a hydrogen bomb, but Amano said given the bigger yield of the latest test, it is safe to assume the country is making significant progress.
