'N. Korean Residents May Have Been Exposed to Nuclear Radiation'

Unification Minister Cho Myoung-gyon said that North Korean residents may well have been exposed to radiation from Pyongyang's latest nuclear test on Sunday, the sixth of its kind.

He made the remark at a hearing hosted by the parliament's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee on Tuesday.

But when asked about suspected cases of radiation exposure by residents in Hamkyong Province, North Korea, Cho said he doesn't have enough intelligence to offer a more specific response.

Cho said that one of the fundamental ways to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue is to induce a sentiment of change within the country and make residents realize that nuclear and missile development does not serve their interest.
