Rodong Sinmun: N. Korea Holds Rally to Mark 6th Nuke Test

The official newspaper of North Korea’s ruling party said Thursday that North Korea held a rally in Pyongyang on Wednesday to celebrate the success of its sixth nuclear test.

According to the Rodong Sinmun, the celebratory rally was held at the Kim Il-sung Square to mark the complete success of the hydrogen bomb test for an intercontinental ballistic missile.

The paper said that senior officials of the ruling party, government and military sat at a royal box set up at the rally. Among such officials were Kim Yong-nam, President of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly, Hwang Pyong-so, chief of the general political bureau of the Korean People's Army and Choe Ryong-hae, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the North’s ruling party.

The North’s Premier Park Bong-ju, who was the first to deliver a speech at the rally, said the sixth nuclear test was held to commemorate the North’s founding day which falls on September 9th. He stressed that the test marks a historic victory for the North Korean people.

Park said that the North’s strategic status as a nuclear power cannot be reversed. He then called on the U.S. to squarely face the solemn reality, to take resolute steps to change its North Korea policies and to make the wise decision of backing away from Korea Peninsula issues.

The premier claimed that the North will not flinch even if the U.S. and hostile forces continue to apply pressure and sanctions.
