VOA: British Council Suspends Education Program in N. Korea

The Voice of America(VOA) said Thursday that the British government has suspended an education program it has been conducting for English teachers in North Korea since 2000.

VOA said that it was informed by the head of media at the British Council, Chloe Kembery, via e-mail that the suspension came in line with the British government advisory against travel to North Korea.

The education program conducted by the British Council and the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office provided English teaching assistance including lessons for English teachers and development of education materials.

Four teachers stationed in Pyongyang had been teaching English to English teachers of seven universities and three middle schools in the North.
