Trump Orders N. Korean Missiles Heading to US be Shot Down

A U.S. news media outlet says U.S. President Donald Trump has ordered that any North Korean missile flying toward the U.S. mainland or the U.S. territories in the Pacific be shot down.

Newsmax quoted sources in the White House’s national security team as saying Trump made the order to the Pentagon right after the North threatened to envelop the U.S. Pacific island of Guam with ballistic missiles last month.

A source said the North’s threat has provoked Trump, while another source said Trump is also considering a “shoot down” order against North Korean missiles heading to its allies such as South Korea and Japan.

Former U.S. Ambassador to the UN John Bolton defended Trump’s decision, saying it is a clear exercise of self-defense.
