NATO Chief: N. Korea's Nuke Test Requires Global Response

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has described North Korea’s sixth nuclear test as a “global threat” and stressed the need for a joint response from the international community.

"And the reckless behavior of North Korea is a global threat and requires a global response and that of course also includes NATO."
"I will not speculate about whether Article 5 will be applied in such a situation (of potential of North Korean attack on U.S. territory of Guam). What I will say is that we are now totally focused on how can we contribute to a peaceful solution of the conflict and press North Korea to stop its nuclear missile programs."

Stoltenberg revealed his stance on Sunday in an interview with BBC, calling the North’s latest move to conduct another nuclear test “reckless.”

North Korea has been claiming that its nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles development programs are aimed at defending itself from U.S. threats and do not target Europe.

Nevertheless, every time the North carried out a nuclear test or launched a ballistic missile, NATO has condemned the moves as provocations against the peace of Northeast Asia and the entire world and has called on Pyongyang to scrap the programs in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner.
