The head of South Korea's largest opposition party has called for nuclear armament to counter growing threats from North Korea.

During a meeting of the Liberty Korea Party's(LKP) Supreme Council members on Monday, Chairman Hong Joon-pyo said that a recent survey by allegedly a pro-government pollster showed 68 percent of citizens also support redeployment of U.S. tactical nuclear weapons.  

Hong also claimed that due to the country’s advanced information and computer technologies, it can conduct explosion tests using computer simulations without having to carry out actual nuclear tests.

The LKP leader cited experts as saying nuclear arms can be developed within a year, and said his party will launch a campaign to collect the signatures of ten million South Koreans for redeployment of tactical nuclear weapons.
