Yomiuri: US Considers Sanctions on Chinese Oil Exporters to N. Korea

A Japanese newspaper said U.S. President Donald Trump is mulling taking a unilateral action to punish Chinese firms selling oil to North Korea.
The Yomiuri Shimbun on Thursday quoted a Washington official as saying it is one of the possible moves to be taken in an effort to make China use more of its leverage on the North to stop its nuclear and missile program.
The newspaper said the Trump administration began to consider the move against Chinese oil traders after its proposal of a full-fledged oil embargo on the North was excluded from the recently adopted UN Security Council(UNSC) resolution on the North.
On August 22nd, the U.S. government took similar unilateral sanctions on Russian exporters of oil to the North, including an asset freeze.
