Humanitarian Assistance for North to Continue Regardless of Political Situation

The Unification Ministry says the government will seek humanitarian assistance for North Korea regardless of Pyongyang’s ballistic missile launch early Friday.
Ministry vice spokesperson Lee Yu-jin said in a regular briefing that it is the government’s stance to continue humanitarian assistance for the vulnerable in North Korea including children and expectant mothers regardless of the political situation.
The spokeswoman confirmed that the government will discuss assistance projects for the North next Thursday as planned.
The Unification Ministry said Thursday that the government will review the donation of some eight million U.S. dollars through UN agencies.
Lee said a specific time for the assistance will be decided at a later time.
