US Commander Assesses N. Korea Tested Hydrogen Bomb on Sept. 3rd

The head of the U.S. military's Strategic Command has assessed that North Korea did in fact test a hydrogen bomb on September third as it claimed.

According to the Associated Press(AP) on Thursday, Air Force General John Hyten told reporters on Wednesday that as a military officer responsible for responding to the test, he assumes it was a hydrogen bomb based on the size of the blast, adding he saw related data and reports.

U.S. Defense Secretary James Mattis estimated the previous day that the explosive yield of the North's sixth nuclear test was over 100 kilotons, much larger than in the previous five tests.

Although Pyongyang immediately claimed it successfully tested a hydrogen bomb, U.S. officials have declined to characterize it.
