Poll: 58% of Americans Support Military Action Against N. Korea if Diplomacy Fails

A new survey shows that more Americans support military action against North Korea if diplomatic solutions fail to resolve the nuclear issue.
In a Gallup poll conducted on over a thousand adults all across the U.S. last week, 58 percent of respondents said they would support military action against North Korea if diplomatic and economic solutions failed.
Thirty-nine percent opposed while four percent withheld an answer.
In a similar Gallup survey conducted in 2003 when North Korea withdrew from the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty and declared to earnestly begin nuclear development, 48 percent of respondents opposed military action while 47 percent supported.
In the latest poll, 82 percent of Republican supporters agreed with military action, while only 16 percent objected.
Among followers of the Democratic Party, 61 percent were against military action with 37 percent in support.
Among those who did not support any particular party, 56 percent supported and 40 percent opposed military action against Pyongyang.
Half of all respondents said a diplomatic and peaceful resolution is possible while 45 percent considered it impossible.
Pessimists have increased since 2003 when over 70 percent said a diplomatic resolution was possible.
The survey has a 95 percent confidence level with a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points.
