US Stealth Jets, Bombers Hold Joint Exercise Over Korean Peninsula

The U.S. on Monday sent four F-35B stealth jets and two B-1B strategic bombers to the Korean Peninsula in a show of force against the North.

A South Korean government source said the stealth jets and bombers conducted a mock bombing exercise over Korea Monday morning and returned home.

The exercise was jointly held with four F-15K fighter jets from the South Korean Air Force.

It's the first time the U.S. has sent strategic assets to the peninsula since North Korea conducted its sixth nuclear test on September third.

The F-35B next-generation fighter jet is capable of precision strikes against enemy targets in the air, on ground and at sea. Its advanced stealth capability means it can penetrate the enemy's air defense network.

The jet is 15-point-seven meters long and ten-point-seven meters wide with maximum speed of Mach one-point-six and a flying range of around 22-hundred kilometers.

The F-35B is equipped with the VERA sensor which has a detection range of 500 kilometers as well as Joint Direct Attack Munition(JDAM) and Small Diameter Bomb(SDB).
