EU Seeks to Lower Remittance Cap for N. Korea

The European Union(EU) is reportedly seeking to impose tougher financial sanctions on North Korea.
Quoting a source familiar with EU affairs, Japan's Yomiuri Shimbun reported on Tuesday that the European Commission sent a sanctions draft to its member nations, which includes a measure to lower the cap for remittance to North Korea from the current 15-thousand euros to five-thousand euros.
The EU reportedly included the measure under the judgment that income from North Korean laborers overseas is flowing into North Korea and funding its nuclear and missile programs.
According to EU data, more than 624 North Koreans are working in ten EU nations with legitimate visas or work permits.
A Dutch research institute said that North Korea is earning 15 million euros a year through its workers in Poland.
