China, Russia Foreign Ministers Stress Peaceful Solution to N. Korea's Nuke Issue

China and Russia’s foreign ministers have reaffirmed the need to peacefully resolve North Korea’s nuclear issue.
According to foreign media outlets, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the affirmation when they met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Monday.
Wang told Lavrov that the North’s nuclear issue must, by all means, be resolved peacefully, adding that China will continuously and fully implement UN Security Council resolutions and abide by international obligations.
Wang then said that related countries must assume their responsibilities and play their given roles. He stressed that the vicious circle of the past must be broken and that dialogue and peace negotiations must be restored.
Wang also said that China and Russia should work together so that the international community comes to support and understand the proposals that they have made for tackling the North’s nuclear issue.
In response, Lavrov said Russia and China’s positions on handling Pyongyang’s nuclear issue are identical, stressing the need for joint efforts to peacefully solve the problem.
The two ministers also exchanged views on issues regarding Syria and Afghanistan.
