Ruling Party Urges Peaceful Resolution of N. Korean Nuclear Issue

The ruling Democratic Party is urging for a peaceful resolution to the North Korean issue.

The party made the call Tuesday as it marked the 12th anniversary of the September 19th Joint Statement issued following six-party talks in 2005, in which Pyongyang committed to abandoning all nuclear weapons and returning to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty in exchange for security guarantees and energy aid.

The DP stated that as President Moon Jae-in urged Pyongyang to realize only dialogue and cooperation can guarantee its future, Seoul should also realize peaceful means are the only solution to the North's nuclear and missile threats.

The party said it is time to understand that calls for tactical nuclear weapons in South Korea or preemptive strikes against the North will not help resolve the North Korean issue at all.
