UNICEF Calls for Aid for N. Korean Children

The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund(UNICEF) has called for urgency in providing aid for North Korean children, saying that supporting them is not related to politics.
Karin Hulshof, regional director for East Asia and the Pacific at UNICEF, said in a statement on Thursday that the challenges that North Korean children face are too real and the need to reach them is urgent.
Hulshof said that UNICEF has been reaching out to children in need around the world "without regard to politics," adding children do not deserve to suffer for situations entirely beyond their control and North Korean children are no exception.
While calling for medical and food aid, the UNICEF official said that North Korean children under the age of five are in special danger due to chronic malnutrition and an inadequate health care system.
