Moon Invites N. Korea to PyeongChang Winter Olympics

President Moon Jae-in has extended an invitation to North Korea for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics.
Moon, honorary ambassador of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympic Games, made the invitation on Wednesday during a special event in New York aimed at promoting the international sporting event.
The president said that tensions are high now, but that is why peace is needed more than ever, and if the two Koreas join together at the event, it will be a great opportunity to send a message of reconciliation and peace to the world.
He added that he does not think the North's participation would be impossible, citing diverse inter-Korean sporting exchanges in the past.
Meanwhile, International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach told Moon during a meeting in New York on Tuesday that he believes the North will send athletes to the games if they make it through the qualifiers. But if they fail to get through the preliminaries, he said he isn’t sure they will come even if invited.
