Russian Foreign Minister: US Will Not Strike N. Korea

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the United States would not carry out a strike on North Korea because it knows Pyongyang has nuclear bombs.

Lavrov said in an interview with Russia's NTV television aired Sunday that the Americans won't carry out a strike because it's not that they suspect, but they know for sure that North Korea has nuclear bombs. He added that he's not defending the North, he's just saying that almost everyone agrees with such an analysis.

The Russian diplomat said that the U.S. attacked Iraq solely because it had definite information that there were no weapons of mass destruction there.

Lavrov stressed the North Korean crisis can only be resolved with a softer approach.

He warned that if the U.S. does not take this approach, thousands of innocent citizens will suffer in South and North Korea, Japan and possibly Russia and China.
