Top Office: US Consulted on Show of Force off N. Korean Coast

The presidential office says Seoul and Washington consulted on the U.S. show of force off North Korea’s eastern coast which took place from late Saturday to early Sunday.
A presidential official told reporters on Monday that the move had been reported to President Moon Jae-in during his trip to New York and that the two governments had discussed it in detail.
Regarding Moon’s decision to hold a full session of the National Security Council(NSC) on Sunday, the official said the meeting wasn’t suddenly scheduled, but had been planned from last week. The official explained that past NSC meetings were held in response to the North’s missile tests, but the president had expressed a need for meetings that review and analyze measures in advance.
The official denied speculation that the meeting was convened after the U.S. notified Seoul of the show of force without prior consultation.
Saturday's deployment of U.S. B-1B Lancer bombers and fighter jets in international airspace off North Korea was the farthest north of the Demilitarized Zone any U.S. aircraft have flown in the 21st century.
