Vatican Calls for New Bilateral, Regional Treaty to Solve N. Korean Issue

The Vatican has emphasized the necessity of a new bilateral or regional treaty to resolve the North Korean nuclear issue.
According to the Holy See Press Office, Vatican Foreign Minister, Archibishop Paul Robert Gallagher made the proposal in a speech at the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.
Noting the outbreak of many wars and regional conflicts around the world, Gallagher urged the nations to make efforts for world peace, environmental protection and a decent life for people.
He pointed out that Pope Francis has repeated his call for disarmament and abolition of nuclear weapons, including at the UN General Assembly in 2015, but the proliferation of nuclear weapons has continued as seen on the Korean Peninsula and increased international tensions.
