Malaysia Imposes N. Korea Travel Ban

Malaysia has decided to ban travels to North Korea indefinitely.

In a press release Thursday, its Foreign Ministry announced that all travel to the North by Malaysian nationals is banned until further notice.

The ministry said the decision has taken into account rising tensions on the Korean Peninsula triggered by North Korea's missile tests. It said the travel ban will be reconsidered once the situation normalizes.

The Malaysian government also imposed a North Korea travel ban earlier this year following the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's half-brother Kim Jong-nam.

Reuters said that Malaysia is one of the few countries sharing favorable diplomatic ties with the North but relations have been tense since Kim Jong-nam's murder which took place in Malaysia in February.
