China Denies Resumption of Coal Imports from N. Korea

Beijing has denied that it resumed coal imports from North Korea.
China’s Commerce Ministry’s spokesman Gao Feng said in a press briefing on Thursday that 138 million dollars worth of North Korean coal was already at a port to clear customs before the implementation of new UN sanctions earlier this month.
The spokesman claimed that China has completely implemented the UN Security Council resolutions on the North.
He said related Chinese government agencies, including the Commerce Ministry and the General Administration of Customs, have imposed bans on North Korean minerals and fishery products by issuing official notices.
Data from China's General Administration of Customs on Tuesday showed that China imported one-point-six million tons of coal from North Korea in August for the first time since February 19th when Beijing prohibited purchases of the fuel from its ally. That raised questions about China's implementation of UN sanctions against North Korea.
