‘N. Korea's 6th Nuke Test 10~20 Times More Powerful than Past Tests’

The Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization(CTBTO) says he believes that North Korea’s sixth nuclear test was between ten and 20 times more powerful than its previous tests.

Lassina Zerbo made the assessment in a video message he sent on Friday to the 2017 autumn seminar of the Korea Nuclear Policy Society that opened in Seoul.

At the time the North conducted its sixth nuclear test on September third, the CTBTO had determined the magnitude to have been five-point-eight but later increased that estimate to six-point-one.

Zerbo said Pyongyang's increased frequency of carrying out nuclear tests shows that its nuclear weapons development has reached a level different from the past, adding that such tests violate international laws and pose a threat to peace and stability.

Zerbo then urged the international community to contribute to coming up with a sustainable solution to the North’s nuclear issue through leadership, trust and dialogue.
