A U.S. senator has claimed that five major Chinese banks have supported manufacturers of North Korean missile parts.
 
According to stenographic records of the Senate Banking Committee on Friday, Democratic Senator Joe Donnelly made this claim during a committee hearing Thursday related to the implementation of sanctions on North Korea.
 
He said he knows the five Chinese banks that were funding firms that helped build North Korean missile parts which target the U.S. and its allies following tests of salvaged missile debris
 
The senator did not give the names of the financial institutions but said they were important Chinese banks.
 
He also did not explain how the U.S. obtained the missile parts in question. But it's believed that confirmation of the manufacturers was made through joint efforts with South Korea and Japan from analyzing debris of North Korean missiles salvaged in the past by the two Asian allies.
