EU Foreign Policy Chief to Discuss N. Korea with FM Kang
The European Union's foreign policy chief says she will meet with South Korea's top diplomat later this week to discuss the North Korean nuclear issue.
The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said Monday the EU will adopt even tougher unilateral sanctions against North Korea.
Attending an EU council meeting in Luxembourg, Mogherini also said she will meet with South Korean Foreign
Minister Kang Kyung-wha later this week to discuss sanctions and diplomatic and political ways to resolve the North Korean crisis.
Mogherini said negotiations with North Korea are not yet feasible but sanctions on the regime are aimed at pressuring the North to open up a political channel for such talks.
