UNSC: No UN Member Reports N. Korean Coal Imports for 5 Months

The international ban on North Korean coal imports appear to be running smoothly with no country reporting any coal imports from the regime for five consecutive months through August.

According to the UN Security Council on Wednesday, no UN member country has reported coal imports from the North between April and August.

The UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2321 in November last year over the North's fifth nuclear test, targeting its coal exports.

In August, China's General Administration of Customs revealed the country imported one-point-six million tons of coal from the North in August, raising the speculation it violated the UN sanction.

However, China’s Commerce Ministry denied this, saying the North Korean mineral was already at a Chinese port before the UN sanctions were implemented.
