Switzerland Implements Sanctions Against N. Korea

Switzerland has unveiled a decree for the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions sanctioning North Korea.

Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs said the Federal Council on Wednesday put into force a decree that would lead Switzerland to implement UN Security Council Resolutions 2371 and 2375 which sanction the North.

On its Web site, the secretariat said that work authorizations may no longer be issued to North Korean citizens, with the exception of permits issued under employment contracts concluded before September eleventh of this year.

The site added that “in the financial sector, joint ventures and cooperative entities, both ongoing and new, with North Korean individuals or companies are no longer permitted.” It added that existing joint ventures and cooperative projects must be discontinued by January ninth of next year at the latest.

The decree also prohibits Switzerland from selling or exporting condensates, natural gas liquids and refined petroleum products to the North.
