Joint Maritime Exercise with US Ends Friday

A joint maritime exercise held between the South Korean and U.S. Navies came to a close on Friday.
While there was speculation about the potential for a North Korea provocation this week, there were no moves from the North to fuel military tension.
The U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan took part in the latest drills held in the East and Yellow Seas.
The South Korean Navy mobilized its destroyer King Sejong the Great as well as surface ships and submarines. Some 40 vessels from both sides were present for the exercise.
Several aircrafts were also mobilized including reconnaissance planes, antisubmarine helicopters, fighter bombers and combat jets.
The two Navies conducted intense Maritime Counter Special Operation Force drills aimed at blocking North Korean provocations on the sea and enhancing combined capabilities.
