A Japanese official reportedly delivered Japan's message to a North Korean diplomat during a nonproliferation conference in Moscow, which ended on Saturday.

Japanese broadcaster NHK on Sunday quoted Kenji Kanasugi, director general of the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Asia Pacific bureau, as saying that he delivered a message to Choe Son-hui, director general of the North Korean Foreign Ministry’s North America department.

The Japanese official did not elaborate on the details of the message, but NHK speculated that Kanasugi seems to have protested over the North's continued provocations.

Japan's Asahi Shimbun daily said that Kanasugi offered a meeting with Choe after a session on Friday, she did not respond to the offer.
