'War on Korean Peninsula Could Kill 300,000 Without Nukes'

The United States Congressional Research Service (CRS) says that military conflict on the Korean Peninsula could kill at least 300-thousand people in the first few days alone even if no nuclear weapons are involved.

Quoting the CRS’s report, Bloomberg News reported on Saturday that given population densities on the peninsula, military conflict “could affect upwards of 25 million people on either side of the border, including at least 100-thousand U.S. citizens.

The CRS said in the report that even if North Korea “uses only its conventional munitions, between 30-thousand and 300-thousand people could be killed in the first days of fighting, citing North Korea’s ability to fire ten thousand rounds per minute.

The 62-page report sent to U.S. lawmakers said that such a conflict could quickly spread to involve forces from the United States, China, Japan and Russia, which would increase casualty rates.
