Top Military Leaders of S. Korea, US, Japan Discuss N. Korean Nuke Threat

Top military leaders of South Korea, the U.S. and Japan have gathered together to discuss joint responses to North Korea’s nuclear threats.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff(JCS) said in a press release that the JCS Chairman Jeong Kyeong-doo met with his U.S. and Japanese counterparts, General Joseph Dunford and Admiral Katsutoshi Kawano, at the U.S. Pacific Command in Hawaii on Sunday.

The meeting, held at the invitation of Dunford, was also attended by Commander of the U.S. Pacific Command Admiral Harry Harris, Commander of the South Korea-U.S. Combined Forces Command General Vincent Brooks and Commander of the U.S Forces Japan General Jerry Martinez.

According to the JCS, the military leaders of the three countries shared their opinions about the North’s two long-range ballistic missiles launched over Japan’s northernmost island of Hokkaido in recent months.

The three countries also reaffirmed the regime’s nuclear test constitutes a serious violation of the UN Security Council resolutions, and agreed to cooperate as much as possible on responding to Pyongyang’s nuclear program.

It was the fifth high-ranking military meeting among the three allies since July of 2014.
