'US to Announce Terror Sponsor Decision on N. Korea in Nov.'

Radio Free Asia reported Saturday that the U.S. State Department will decide this month whether to relist North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.

Citing a U.S. State Department official, RFA reported on Friday that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is still reviewing the decision.

The official said the State Department notified Congress Thursday that the secretary will announce a decision within November.

Last month, 16 congressmen including Ed Royce and Eliot Engel sent a letter to Tillerson requesting the re-designation of North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.

U.S. media reported last month that 12 senators including Rob Portman and Mark Warner also made the request to the State Department.

U.S. lawmakers cited the death of American college student Otto Warmbier after his long detention in North Korea as well as the assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un's half-brother in a Malaysia airport using a nerve agent as reasons to relist North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.
