'Winds from N. Korea Nuke Site May Send Radiation Toward Japan'

A U.S. weather firm says that winds from North Korea's nuclear test site may send radiation toward Japan this weekend or next week.

AccuWeather said Friday that following a deadly tunnel collapse at the test site, winds may strengthen from the northwest and direct radiation toward northern Japan.

AccuWeather forecast northwesterly winds of ten to 20 miles per hour at the Punggye-ri test site this weekend and the middle of next week.

The firm said the radiation threat may include Hokkaido, far-northern Honshu, and even areas farther south but it did not mention South Korea.

Japan's TV Asahi earlier reported that a tunnel collapsed at the Punggye-ri site on September tenth, with a hundred people being trapped.

The report said that during rescue operations, a second collapse occurred and some 200 people in total are believed to have been killed.

However, North Korea's state-run Korean Central News Agency has since refuted the claim as "fabrication and slander."
