Trump, Abe Agree to Maximize Pressure on N. Korea

U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe have vowed to put “maximum pressure” on North Korea.

During a joint press conference Monday, following their summit meeting in Tokyo, Abe said he and Trump agreed to increase pressure on the North to make the regime change its policies.

Abe also affirmed that Japan supports Trump's stance and earlier remarks that all options are on the table, and that holding talks for the sake of talks is meaningless. He added that it is not time for dialogue but to apply additional pressure.

Trump said North Korea's nuclear and missile development is a threat to the whole world, declaring an end to the era of strategic patience.

Trump also said that there has never been a time when the U.S.-Japan alliance was as strong as it is now, adding the two countries will respond to the North’s threats based on the strong alliance.

Regarding the massive trade deficits between the two countries, Trump said his government will try to address the unfair trade relations with Japan.
