Trump Hopes not to Have to Use Military Forces against N. Korea

U.S. President Donald Trump has stressed that, while the U.S. has been displaying the strength of its military forces in response to North Korea’s recent provocations, it hopes not to have to use them.

Trump made the veiled warning during a joint press conference with President Moon Jae-in in Seoul on Tuesday after their summit meeting at the presidential office.

When asked his opinion on a diplomatic solution to the North Korean nuclear issue, Trump said it is difficult to tell whether it's likely to be successful or not, adding the U.S. cannot show its cards to the North.

Instead, Trump emphasized it is important to have the regime do the right thing, adding it would not only be good for the North, but also for the whole of humanity.

The U.S. president said Washington is showing “great strength” and he believes the North understands the U.S. has “unparalleled strength.”

However, he said it makes sense for the North to “come to the table and make a deal that is good for the people of North Korea and people of the world.”

He added he is seeing “certain movement,” adding “we’ll see what happens.”

Trump also said South Korea will be ordering billions of dollars of military equipment from the U.S. and some of the orders have already been approved.

He added that the orders would mean jobs for the U.S. and a reduction in the trade deficit with South Korea.
