RFA: Coal Transport on Russia-N. Korea Railway Surges in First Half

Radio Free Asia(RFA) says that cargo transport on a cross-border railway between Russia and North Korea sharply increased in the first half of this year from a year ago.

Quoting Russian Railways, the U.S.-based broadcaster reported on Friday that during the first six months of the year, Russian exports transported by the Khasan–Rajin railway almost doubled to one-point-32 million tons year-on-year.

RFA said that the surge is attributed to Russia's continued coal exports through the Port of Rajin in North Korea, adding 98-point-five percent of Russian shipments transported on the railway were coal in the first half.

The Khasan-Rajin railway, connecting the North Korean port of Rajin with the Russian city of Khasan, was renewed between 2008 and 2014 and Russia has been exporting Siberian coal to China via Rajin Port.
