China says its special envoy to North Korea will discuss issues of mutual concern between the two countries when he visits Pyongyang this week.

Beijing's Foreign Ministry said Wednesday that Song Tao, head of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, will visit the North as a special envoy for Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Song will inform North Korean officials of the result of the 19th Congress of the Communist Party of China.

The ministry added the special envoy will also discuss areas of mutual concern between the ruling parties of the two countries and their governments, but did not elaborate. 

Earlier on Wednesday, China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency reported that Song will visit Pyongyang on Friday.
