UN Command Postpones Disclosing CCTV Footage of N. Korean Soldier's Defection

The UN Command has indefinitely postponed a plan to release CCTV footage that shows how a North Korean soldier defected to the South on Monday via the Joint Security Area(JSA) in Panmunjeom.

It's not yet known why the UN Command has decided not to disclose it.

The footage is known to show crucial moments of the soldier's defection, including when he drove a military jeep toward the South, crossed the Military Demarcation Line(MDL) and was shot at by North Korean troops chasing him.

The UN Command chief has the authority to disclose any video or photos taken by surveillance equipment in the JSA. U.S. Forces Korea Commander Vincent Brooks, who also heads the U.S. Command, reportedly supported the initial plan to release part of the footage.
