N. Korea: Chinese Envoy Stressed Development of Friendly Ties

North Korea said Saturday that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s special envoy met with the North's ruling Workers' Party's vice chairman and briefed him on the results of the recent Chinese Communist Party congress.

The North's official Korean Central News Agency said that Chinese special envoy Song Tao met with North Korean official Choe Ryong-hae on Friday at the Mansudae Assembly Hall.

The report said that Song Tao, who heads the Communist Party's International Liaison Department, gave a detailed briefing to Choe on the progress of the Communist Party's 19th congress.

The envoy reportedly stressed the Chinese party's stance to continue to advance traditionally friendly ties between the two countries.

KCNA also said the envoy offered a gift to Choe for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The envoy is expected to meet with Kim as early as Saturday and hand him a letter from President Xi.
