A U.S. State Department official told Voice of America(VOA) that North Korea has repeatedly supported international terrorist acts which is in line with the regime's broader range of dangerous and malicious activities.
 
VOA on Tuesday cited the official, who asked to remain anonymous, as explaining the reasons behind Washington's decision to relist North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.
 
The official said the decision serves to inform the American public and the international community that the Trump administration is fully focused on preventing North Korea's support of terrorism and further isolating the regime from global diplomacy and trade.
 
The official added that under the state sponsor of terrorism designation, individuals and countries doing business with the North can be punished while weapons exports and aid provisions are prohibited.
