UNC: N. Korean Soldiers Fired Across Military Demarcation Line

Shots fired by North Korean soldiers at their comrade who defected to South Korea via the Joint Security Area last week were found to have crossed the Military Demarcation Line(MDL).
The UN Command(UNC) said Wednesday that it has also confirmed that a North Korean soldier briefly crossed the line during the incident.
The UNC said the actions violated the Korean War armistice agreement and that it has informed the North Korean military of the violations through a communication channel at the truce village of Panmunjom.
It added that it requested a meeting with the North Korean side to discuss the matter and to establish measures to prevent future violations of the armistice agreement.
The UNC also disclosed CCTV footage of the North Korean soldier defecting.
The UNC explained that the footage shows the soldier escaping in a vehicle, which got stuck in a drain, then running across the MDL while being fired at by his comrades.
The footage also shows a North Korean soldier briefly crossing the MDL before going back and the defector being rescued.
The UNC formed an inspection body after the soldier's defection on November 13th. It completed the probe on Monday.
