N. Korean Defector Moved to General Ward

The North Korean soldier who was shot multiple times while defecting across the border to South Korea last week has been transferred out of intensive care.
Officials at Ajou University Hospital say the 24-year-old soldier was moved Friday to a general ward within the hospital in Suwon, south of Seoul. His medical team said it decided to move the soldier as his condition had stabilized and he doesn't have a fever.
After monitoring him for a few more days, the university hospital and the military plan to transfer him to a military hospital.
The soldier was airlifted to the hospital Monday last week after being shot in his elbow, shoulders and abdomen by his former North Korean comrades as he made a dash across the border at the truce village of Panmunjeom.
He underwent two major surgeries in the hospital before regaining consciousness this week.
