RFA: Switzerland to Continue Humanitarian Aid to N. Korea

Radio Free Asia reported Saturday that the Swiss government will continue its humanitarian support to North Korea even as other countries suspend their aid to the North in response to the regime's continued provocations.
Spokeswoman Carole Wälti of Switzerland's Federal Department of Foreign Affairs told RFA in an e-mail that announcements by the UK and Australia to suspend their aid to North Korea will not affect the country’s North Korea assistance programs.
The report said Wälti's remark made it clear Switzerland will continue its support for Pyongyang.
The Swiss government allotted a budget of over eight million dollars for North Korea aid in 2017. In the name of a humanitarian program, the fund is mainly used to supply drinking water to North Korean residents struck by natural disasters and assisting them in hygiene, nutrition and food security.
The spokeswoman also stressed that Switzerland condemns North Korea's intercontinental ballistic missile launches, including the one on Wednesday as it shows Pyongyang is not faithfully abiding by international regulations.
