Chinese Firms in Dandong Notified of Border Bridge Closure

Chinese trade firms based in Dandong, Liaoning Province are confirmed to have been notified of the temporary closure of the Amrok River Bridge.
According to a source in the North Korea-China border area on Monday, Chinese authorities conveyed notice of the bridge closure through Sunday to trade firms in the Dandong area that do business with North Korea.
The notice read that vehicle passage is completely banned from Monday to December 20th as North Korea is carrying out renovations on the bridge.
The bridge will resume operation from the 21st.
The Amrok River Bridge connects Dandong and the North Korean city of Sinuiju.
It is a key route in the two countries' trade accounting for more than 70 percent of bilateral trade volume.
The 80-year-old bridge was constructed in 1937 during the Japanese colonial period.
It has a 589 meter long railway and a single lane road, and the road is being revamped during the renovation period.
