North Korea’s elite officials handling the development and production of the country’s military weapons, including nuclear weapons and missiles, have gathered together in Pyongyang.

The North’s official Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) Tuesday reported on the eighth Conference of the Munitions Industry held in the day with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in attendance.

According to the KCNA, Thae Jong-su, vice chairman of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, reported on the outcomes and experiences in the country’s munitions industry.  

North Korea watchers presume that given his weighty role during the conference, Thae may be assuming a top-ranking position in charge of military procurement at the North’s ruling party.

He was appointed to be a vice chairman of the central committee on October seventh, but the North has not disclosed what exactly his role is with the committee.
