Tillerson, N. Korea's Envoy to Attend UN Meeting

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson will seek to rally UN Security Council members to put maximum pressure on North Korea in a UN session.
U.S. State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement on Wednesday that Tillerson will participate in a UNSC Ministerial Briefing on Non-Proliferation and North Korea in New York on Friday.
The spokeswoman said that Tillerson will reaffirm the Trump administration's push for "maximum pressure" on Pyongyang to give up its weapons programs.
The scheduled meeting will seek ways to stop the North's provocations and denuclearize the Korean Peninsula through diplomacy.
Meanwhile, North Korea on Thursday reportedly notified the Security Council that it will attend the session as a concerned party, although it is not a council member.
North Korea's ambassador to the UN Ja Song-Nam will speak during a rare appearance at the top UN body.
South Korea was invited to the session as a country closely involved in the North's nuclear and missile problem. The government has sent Vice Foreign Minister Cho Hyun to the meeting.
